Road Safety Engineering Bureau (shortname RODS in ROADIDEA) is a SME, dealing with theoretical and practical questions of road traffic engineering and safety. Main topics of the RODS are:
- Strategies and methods to improve rural road safety and contribution to the road safety activities in Hungary
- Collect and study the road safety principles and models used in this field all over the world.
- Collect the traffic flow parameters (speed, volume, number of conflicts etc.) and calculate the fundamental diagrams and LOS on different roads.
- Analyse and evaluate the measured traffic data by mathematical statistical methods.
- Help to introduce the speed and infrastructural safety management systems in Hungary at the National Road Administration.
- Develop different softwares for the road safety experts at the Motorway and Highway Administration
Key personnel:
Domokos Jankó PhD. (67) – head of the RODS – has a PhD degree in Traffic Engineering and Safety.
He was working at the Research Institute 20 years and was the head of Road Safety Unit at the Transportation Science Institute (KTI) in Hungary for 10 years. He received his PhD degree in 1980 for the thesis: The forecast of the number of fatal road accidents in Hungary by time series analysis. He founded the RODS 16 years ago. He has been engaged in lecturing at the Technical University and at postgraduate courses. He is author and co-author of several publications.
Sándor Szénási (28). He is an assistant and dealing with software developments and teaching at the Technical Highschool in Budapest. He has been engaged in development of network security software and data mining methods at the Highschool. He is developed an accident database system for the Hungarian Motorway Administration and dealing with the theoretical questions of black spot identification.
Contribution in ROADIDEA:
Road Safety Engineering Bureau is active in all technical WPs of ROADIDEA, focusing mostly in data collection and method/model development issues.
