Klimator - a consultancy company at the University of Göteborg, Sweden.
Klimator is a company closely linked to the University and work with front line research projects with in the field of road climatology and transport. Research within this field has been pursued at Göteborg University since the beginning of the 70´s. One of the main focuses
of this research has been the relationship between local climate, winter road safety and weather.
The idea with a road weather information system (RWIS) for detection and warning for risk of hazardous road conditions has its origin from this research. To develop the RWIS much focus has been on model development for spatial coverage of road weather conditions.
The present activities in the field of applied road climatology at Klimator involves research and development work that aims at improving the present RWIS-systems as well as designing new combined systems in order to make road weather data more useful and available not only for maintenance personal but rather people that are on the roads or want to plan their journey.
Other areas of interests of Klimator are within ITS solutions for increased traffic safety as well as models to be able to give variable speed limits and warnings to road users in relation to prevailing road conditions.
Torbjörn Gustavsson - has a Ph-D degree in Physical Geography with emphasis on climatology. Torbjörn Gustavsson received his Ph-D in 1990 with the thesis entitled “Modelling of Local Climate”. He became Associate Professor in 1996 and has since then worked as a research coordinator and leader of the research activities regarding road climatology at Klimator, which has been founded by among others the Swedish National Road Administration. He has also been engaged in lecturing and development of graduate university courses as well as postgraduate courses. Since 1996 he has been project supervisor for Ph-D students in Climatology at the department of Earth Sciences at Göteborg University. Within the research community Gustavsson has been referee for several international journals and magazines. Since 2000 he is on the editorial board of Meteorological Applications.
Jörgen Bogren - received his Ph-D in 1990 with the thesis “Application of a Local Climatological Model for Prediction of Air and Road Surface Temperatures”. In 2000 he became Associate Professor. He is a member of the SIRWEC (standing international road weather commission) executive committee and was the president organising and hosting the SIRWEC conference in Luleå 1998. He is at present involved as project coordinator for several research projects founded by among others the Swedish National Road Administration
and has a vast experience of research methods and scientific coaching. Jörgen Bogren has also been head of the department developing areas, which cover research, staff and students activities. He has also been responsible for development of lecturing and teaching at different levels.
